Naturalism Performance Workshops

We are running a series of three free skill workshops, focused on naturalistic performance styles, where we will have the opportunity to help in the development of a brand new original play, written by one of our own members, Rory Svensson.

The workshops run on 22nd, 29th May and 5th June at Little Green at 7:45pm.

You have a unique opportunity to learn new skills whilst simultaneously working with a brand new original play and using this to not only learn more about the naturalistic performance style but gain insight into play development and how actors and playwrights can work together to improve skills mutually. 


Workshop 1 - Character Analysis - We will use steps from Stanislavski’s Method to take a deep dive into this original plays characters and learn how we can create a character, how this affects Performance and Direction and look at how this can help develop the play content.

Workshop 2 - Understanding a character -The importance of voice. We will look at emphasis, rhythm, pacing and pause to learn how we can convey storyline, subtext and characterisation through voice. We will also use this to review how the play is perceived and interpreted and observe how this could affect the storyline under different direction.

Workshop 3 - Interpreting a scene- bringing the page to life. In groups we will discuss how you would approach Directing a specific scene from the original play, your interpretation and how you would work with performers to direct. You will be able to choose whether you would like to direct or perform and we will share a showcase and discussion together with the playwright.

This workshop is open to both members and non members, ages 16+

Whilst we encourage you to attend all 3 sessions to get the most well rounded experience, you are welcome to attend any individual workshop - just be sure to sign up so we know numbers.
